Sticks, Stones, Broken Bones comes to the Philippines this May!

PETA Theater Center, in partnership with Bunk Puppets, brings to Manila the internationally awarded shadow puppetry performance Sticks, Stones, Broken Bones all the way from Melbourne, Australia!

Sneaky chickens, flying ninjas, brain surgery and an unforgettable horse race! Sticks, Stones, Broken Bones takes the audience into a surreal world of puppets and adventure.
Using household objects and bits of rubbish, Bunk Puppets transforms simple objects into hilarious silhouette stories. In each scene, the puppetry is performed in front of the shadow screen, so that the audience gets a close look at the visual trickery. Old toys, brooms, boxes and discarded clothing are deftly stitched together to create shadow puppet stories and characters.
Delighting audiences in dozens of countries, Sticks, Stones, Broken Bones is a hilarious fusion of shadow puppetry and physical theatre. It’s a visual feast for the imagination! Come, experience one man's playful vision of wonder and nonsense. Sticks, Stones, Broken Bones is a 50-minutenon-verbal puppet comedy show for all ages. Some bits are a wee bit scary for under 6 years old, so we highly recommend that they are accompanied by their parents.

Show Schedule:

May 3 (2pm), 4 (2pm), 5 (2pm), 6 (1:30pm, 4pm) and 7 (1:30pm, 4pm)

Great news!

This summer, PETA Theater Center Launches A Puppetry-Show Making Competition!

PETA teaches parents and children that family bonding need not be expensive through a series of online tutorials and puppetry-show-making competition! Inspired by their newest offering, Sticks, Stones, Broken Bones, PETA invites mommies and daddies to learn the art of puppetry and create a short skit with their kids for a chance to win a staycation for 4 at the Summit Magnolia.

Based in Melbourne, Bunk Puppets company director, Jeff Achtem explains “Traditionally, shadow puppeteers create their silhouette performances by manipulating puppets behind a screen. We perform Sticks, Stones, Broken Bones in front from the screen, which means we can use cinematic effects like close-ups and zooms. The audience gets to witness every bit of the puppeteers moves" he says.
The show makes each audience member feel like they are part of the process. From seeing random objects transformed into characters to how the stories are weaved, Sticks,Stones, Broken Bones takes them to a world of puppets and adventures.

This is an experience that PETA wants to give families a teaser. Through the tutorials posted at the PETA Theater Center Facebook page, they can learn how to turn a spoon to a man in a suit or a pot handle to an old lady. After this, they are invited to create and record their own puppetry skits running from 60-90 seconds. They can email the video to petatheatercenter@gmail.com from April 17 to April 23.

Entries will be posted at the PETA Theater Center Facebook page. Videos with the most likes will win an overnight stay at Summit Hotel Magnolia, free family pass for 3 to the Stick, Stones and Broken Bones opening show and a free workshop!
