It’s been a while.
How are you? Hope you’re
all doing okay.
It has been months
since I last posted something on the blog. I know lines like “I am busy” was used,
most of the time, by people who’ve been M.I.A. Me? Well, let’s just say that I’ve
enjoyed the life of being offline. Less drama, more quality time with the
people who matter most, my family.
Speaking of family,
mine loves to eat. We like to try new dishes or do food trip especially when
going out-of-town. When we’re at home, I make sure to serve their favorite viands.
The only challenge for me though, is that I am not quite knowledgeable in
preparing desserts. I would normally end up buying cakes and ice cream in
nearby store. Since my husband and daughter both have sweet tooth, I would
really want to know how to make yummy treats from scratch.
Now, can you imagine
my excitement when I received an invite to take a short pastry course at Global
Culinary and Hospitality Academy? Hihi!
Global Culinary and Hospitality Academy
Founders, Chef Roberto
Pengson and Mr. Benjamin Ledesma Jr., opened their first branch in Ortigas last
April 2007. Due to demand, the second branch was established in Alabang Zapote
last 2008. Today, Global Academy is the only professional culinary school to
have 4 branches in Metro Manila (third branch is in Quezon City – 2009 and
fourth one is in Makati City – 2010).
Not only that, this
institution prides itself to be the first culinary school in the Philippines to
receive The World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) Recognition of Quality
Culinary Education (given last 2012).
“Global
Academy believes and has proven that professional culinary dreams do come true
when dedicated students come in partnership with a committed school” – excerpt www.globalacademyph.com
The Kitchen
One of the things that
I like about this school is the spacious, fully-equipped kitchen laboratory. It
makes you want to bake more. Not to mention the state-of-the-art facilities.
Ugh. Heaven.
Playing "Chef"
It started with me,
being handed with a kit consisting of the following:
* Student Form
* Cap
* Apron
* Brown Envelope
(printed recipes inside)
Then our group had a quick briefing
with Chef Erika de Leon, Global Academy’s Marketing Chef and Head of Short
Course and Lifestyle Unit.
Chef did a demo on all
of the things that we will be doing on our own. She discussed everything that
we need to know, from learning how to use the mixer to different tricks on how
to bake different goodies.
Because I was too
busy baking (plus the fact that my hands were full of flour. Lol), I was not
able to capture all of the highlights of the course, so let me share this cute
tray full of ingredients in making lemon squares instead.
And my Carrot Cake... This is my first! Not
perfect but it looked edible to me. As per my family, it tasted great, too! (that's why I love them, my fam. haha).

the sweets we made on our last day of school. Hehe!
