Dpop's 1st Professional Blogging Summit

10.18.2014 Professional Blogging Summit, held at the A. Venue Mall Makati City, was the first blogging summit organized by Dpop.

Dpop or Digital Pop is the brainchild of Jeoff Solas and Janette Toral, 2 of the big names in the blogging industry.

Before the start of the Summit
Arrived at A.Venue mall at around quarter to one. With me is a good friend of mine, Dianne of Memet Diaries. It took a lot of courage for me to be there since my family's going through a difficult situation right now. To take my mind off of it, even for few hours, I decided to come (and I've been waiting for this event for days now).
The Venue
It's artsy interior and relaxing color made the venue less intimadating, which is perfect for casual talk.

The Speakers
Azrael Coladilla of Azrael's Merryland.
Ross Flores del Rosario of Wazzup Pilipinas.
JayL Aquino a social media strategist for local celebrities.
Seph Cham a model & brand endorser.
Jeoff Solas a digital marketer & blogger by heart.
Sai Sayson-Montes entrepreneur & make up artist.

What I learned from the Summit...

About Blogging:
1. Should blog about your passion.
2. Copy-pasting is unethical. Need I say more?
3. Make your blog simple & fun (if applicable).
4. Filter information being shared through social media (for security).

Blogging Etiquette:
1. Be nice to everyone. (to your readers and/or bloggers you meet during events)
2. Share your knowledge and support other bloggers.
3. Respect others & act responsibly.
4. If, by any chance, committed a mistake, own it, learn from it and move on.

Blogging + Business:
1. Hard sell nowadays, is not effective when marketing a brand. It should be 20% business related & 80% relatable.
2. Need to take care of customers because if you don't, your competitors will.

And the best part of attending events...

You meet the bloggers/PR/organizers in person.

Professional Blogging Summit

Why do I blog?

I often ask this question to myself. Is it because I want to make it as a profession, passion for writing perhaps or do I simply want an online diary?

When I started this blog - Honey's Haven, back in the last quarter of 2010, I was merely documenting my life events online. As I continued writing, it became a part of my weekly routine - post a blog or two. Before I hit my first year online, I had to stop due to a pregnancy issue. I was just starting to attend events and gaining friends from the blogging community. With a heavy heart, Honey's Haven was offline for more than 2 years.

Come mid 2014, I visited my blog for I've missed it so much. Then it struck me. I can go back to blogging and this time, it's for good.

Why do I blog?
I blog because of my passion to write about food, travel and to share my experiences as a mommy/wife to others. Furthermore, I want to take my blog to the next level. The best way to achieve this is to learn from the experts. This is why I decided to participate in the upcoming Professional Blogging Summit

In partnership with #dpop, this half day, by-invitation event will be held at A Venue Mall Makati Ave, Makati City this Saturday, 18th of October, 2014 at 1pm.

It aims to gather professional bloggers, share experiences, exchange insights on blogging and make it sustainable as a profession.

Blogapalooza 2014

10.11.2014 The grand Blogapalooza 2014 was held in SM Aura, Taguig. I am a first time attendee and for those who were unable to make it, let me take you on a quick tour.

At the registration area, there's someone who looked for my name in the computer and the other person wrote my name on the blogger ID.
Tada! Here's the welcome kit :D It composed of tote bag with blogapalooza logo on it, a blogger's ID and manila bulletin newspaper.

After registration, my friend took a photo of me, (giant tarp as background) as a souvenir.

Upon entering the place, we (blogger friend Dianne and I), were surprised at how big the venue was. And since there were a lot of participants (businesses) inside, let me share with you some of the booths I liked and/or enjoyed :)

1. Chooks-To-Go:
When we passed by their booth, we were greeted by a man with big smile on his face and politely asked if we want to try their kwelavan
Out of curiosity, we tried it, had fun and made a fool of ourselves. Brought home a really big and super red umbrella as a token.

Delivery service available within Metro Manila. Just dial 687-1010 or order online at

2. Chef's Noodle Korean Restaurant:
Each blogger were treated with 2 (pcs) rice rolls and 1 juice drink.
I liked the taste of the kimchi rice roll. If you're interested, they currently have branches in:
SM North - 376 5367
Atlanta Centre - 576 5054
Rob Magnolia - 656 7033
Rob Malolos - 0917 5486187

3. Chips Ahoy!:
Chips Ahoy now has 2 new flavors, mint chocolate chip and root beer float. I was kind of hesitant to try the root beer float as it sounded 'weird' when it's a flavor of a cookie but it tasted good, surprisingly :D hehe! But I've always been a fan of mint chocolate so I still go with mint chocolate chip :)
If you don't have any plans this coming weekend (10.18.2014), visit them at the SM MOA, Main Atrium and be ready to fill your eyes with exciting shows, games & a chance to win prizes & giveaways.

All you need to do is purchase a pack upon entry at the launch and you will get 3 passes :)

4. House of Lasagna:
I haven't eaten in the house of lasagna so I cannot say nor recommend any food that they offer.
However, I still want to thank them for handing out this voucher. Like me, if you want to try their food, they deliver:
San Juan (main branch) 570-8610
Greenhills Shopping Center 570-8610
Eton Centris 709-7004
SM Megamall 655-0968

1. Flawless:
In the Flawless booth, my friend and I were asked to pop a pink balloon to win a prize.
Look how cute and girly this pop-a-zit board is :) I was given 3 darts and fortunately, I was able to pop one balloon.
Here's what they gave me - flawless stem cell day & night serums. Haven't used it so I don't know if it's effective or not. But what I can tell you is that they are, for me, was the generous of them all, when it comes to loot bag giving :)

Visit them online:
fb - Flawless Face and Body Clinic

2. Bioessence:
The two girls manning the booth gave out lip balm and voucher (with a choice of facial or massage) that can be used at any branch.
For 20 years (and counting), this beauty clinic prides itself with its facial services, highly trained therapists and customer care.

They even came up with its own vanity number: 0918-8-BEAUTY
Call if you want to book an appointment, inquire for the latest beauty products or simply ask for assistance.

3. Sample Room:
This is a sampling site that believes in the power of free product sampling. It gives you the option to try the product first before buying.
Here's how it works:

1. Globe:
One of the leading brands in the Phils, now introduces G-Cash Mastercard.
I was asked by the Globe rep to share the photo on fb and tag 5 of my friends. After that, I was given an opportunity to play.
Look what I got :) Minion for my daughter.

If you want to avail/inquire about gcash mastercard, call 2882.

2. Sky Cable:
The girls manning the sky booth were very friendly and even offered to take a photo of me and my friend at the sky zone

I have not subscribed to any sky cable or sky broadband. But we (hubby and I) are considering this brand as we heard good feedback. Will probably post if we're already subscribers :)

There's a lot of brands that participated in this year's blogapalooza. (will create a different article on some brands that I did not include on this post) I have not visited them all (left past lunch time) but nevertheless, I had a great time.

Congratulations to Sir Vince of When in Manila & Sir Anton of Our Awesome Planet for this super cool event.

Baby Sign Language & Understanding Your Toddler Workshop

10.04.2014 @ the 12th floor of Insular Bldg Makati, Baby Sign Language & Understanding Your Toddler workshop took place.

Baby Sign Language
This is a program designed specifically for hearing babies. It aims to provide ways on how children, 6 mos to 30mos, can communicate with their parents using baby signs.

According to Ms Sharon Agoncillo-Galang, an independent certified instructor of the Baby Signs Program, this helps in reducing frustrations & tantrums, increasing adults' respect for babies, enriching the parent-child bond, helping babies learn to talk sooner and fostering positive emotional development. Baby signs program is based on research of Drs. Linda Acredolo & Susan Goodwyn, whom conducted over 2 decades of academic research on the use of sign language with hearing babies, funded by the National Institute of Health.

Here are commonly used baby signs (photo credit:

Understanding Your Toddler
Toddler stage (age 1-3) is the remarkable  transformation from a baby to a child. It is said to have 4 key aspects, namely:

Physiological (physical development)
Psychosocial (interpersonal)
Intellectual (understanding & language)
Moral (values)

According to Dr. Jamie Isip-Cumpas, as a parent, there's a lot of things that you need to know, in order to have a harmonious relationship with your toddler. I am not going to discuss all of those on this post. I'll just highlight the top 3 on my list.

Living the Moment  Toddlers live in the present and do not understand the concept of waiting. So for them not to be bored, keep them entertained.

Control Freak  One of the struggles in handling a toddler is to prove who's the boss. Although it is obvious that we, parents, should always be in control, the challenging part is how are we going to show it to our child(ren) without them knowing? Answer: Do the two choice game

Example of which is:
Instead of saying "Eat your veggies", try asking "Do you want to eat your carrots or potatoes?"

This way, you let your child make a choice for him/herself but little did he/she know, you made him/her eat his/her veggies.

Social Development  much of social behavior of a child came from imitating that of the parents and other children. Having said that, parents should be role models for their little ones, encourage them to explore their surroundings and talk about their feelings. Parents should also respond to aggressive behavior with clear reprimands. Most important, do not label your child. Calling him/her names like kulet (guilty!) or taba may have negative effect on their confidence.

After the talk, there'd been a short raffle and I won one(set) of the 7 items being given away that day. Thank you :)

And here's the souvenir pic of all the participants, speakers and organizers (photo credit: babysignsph fb page).

Thank you and congratulations to Manila Workshops for a successful event. Visit their website: to check on their workshops' schedule.

Disclaimer: Information stated on this post were my interpretation of what I've learned in the workshop. Although I graduated in college with a degree in Psychology, it is best to contact the person(s) mentioned, specializing in baby sign language & in handling your toddler's behavior and development, to answer all of your queries. Thank you :)
